Job Description.
Founded in 1999, BUILD uses entrepreneurship to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school. Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders, and launch real businesses. As they journey through high school, BUILD provides students with support in navigating the college application process and the opportunity to explore college and career options, while expanding their businesses or opting into community internships.
BUILD currently serves approximately 2,000 high school students at programs located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, DC, New York City, Los Angeles and Boston. The Boston office, founded in 2011, currently serves 400 students from seven high schools in the Boston Public Schools.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Youth Engagement Supervisor, the Youth Engagement Coordinator (YEC) works on site at one of our 7 BUILD Partner High Schools and ensures that BUILD students get the academic, social and emotional supports needed to improve their grades, graduate from high school, and be successful in college. YEC's serve as assistant teachers in BUILD entrepreneurship classes both during and after school, and also collaborate with school guidance counselors, teachers, mentors, and community partners to ensure student success. YEC's also monitor, promote, and ensure student attendance in school, BUILD classes, and after school sessions. Additionally, YEC's counsel, advise and collaborate with team members to ensure that all 9th-12th grade students are on track to launch and run successful businesses while meeting high school graduation and college eligibility requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
Student Relationships & Academic Counseling: :
Develop and maintain relationships with up to 100 students by demonstrating compassion, respect and high expectations
Develop and maintain relationships with students' families by demonstrating compassion, respect, and constant communication around shared goals
Work with students to develop effective study skills and work habits that will enable them to be successful in post-secondary education
Instruction, Classroom Assistance, and Evaluation:
Support BUILD Entrepreneurship Teachers in class sessions both during and after school, 3-4 days a week, as students develop and launch real businesses.
Teach 2 days a week after school (60-90 minutes), with lessons focused on identify, social justice, race, culture, and current events. Design lesson plans in collaboration with YEC's at other school sites, and in concert with community partners.
Ensure students are engaged and meeting curriculum outcomes and projects by providing social emotional support to students during program implementation
Manage the BUILD Bonus Day (afternoons and evenings Monday-Thursday) and off site tutoring to create a safe, structured and fun environment for students and their tutors
Plan and implement student academic improvement and support plans by reviewing report cards and progress reports, and regularly meeting with students 1:1
Help students find rewarding summer academic enrichment programs, internships or summer jobs, working with the Boston Private Industry Council and local agencies.
Collect and enter student data including grades, attendance, and other metrics on a weekly basis
Support the execution of student events including business showcases, sales bazaars, academic award nights, and college tours, with support from other BUILD staff
Partner Relationship Management: Partner Schools, Parents, Non-Profits, and others:
Manage and build relationships with staff and nonprofit partners on site at each Partner School
Collaborate with YEC’s at other BUILD Partner Schools to facilitate student events, field trips, college tours, and other activities.
Site Leadership & Support:
Serve as the BUILD Ambassador in a Partner School
Play lead role in maintaining a welcoming and enriching environment for the School Based Incubator where students work on their businesses and personal development both during and after school.
Work with Tutors and Interns that enable the individual supports for each student
Support colleagues and programming for a cohort of students in grade levels 9-12 at the Partner School
Required Qualifications.
Candidate Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required. Teaching or paraprofessional experience a plus.
Social worker, counseling, and/or youth development background preferred.
Minimum 2 years’ experience working with under-resourced youth and track record of successful relationships and program impact.
Experience in a tutoring, college advising or special needs role preferred
Experience with case management and/or development of individualized learning plans preferred.
Must have a valid driver's license and access to a car

Relationship Building and Management: —utilizes effective interpersonal skills and techniques to reach mutually beneficial goals over time
