Legislative & External Affairs Director
Job Description.
The Legislative Director is responsible for oversight of the Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) legislative program and advises the Commissioner of Public Lands and DNR's Executive Team on major policy and external relations issues. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports directly to the Chief of Staff and serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Public Lands.
Required Qualifications.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out responsibilities of the position as outlined above. Significant work experience in natural resources public policy or related fields. Significant experience working with the legislature. Experience representing an elected official.Excellent communications and diplomacy skills. Well established network of contacts and an excellent reputation within Washington State's natural resources policy environment.
Preferred Qualifications.
Familiarity with DNR's mission, major programs, and stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and solve tough problems. Ability to calmly and professionally navigate difficult public policy issues and situations. Strong work ethic and commitment to public service.
