Job Description.
To provide support for and administer a variety of legal activities as assigned and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and other requirements on behalf of Delta Dental of Michigan or its affiliates and subsidiaries.
Primary Job Responsibilities
1. Researches federal, state, and local statutes, pending legislation, administrative rules or decisions, and/or regulatory and compliance requirements.
2. Analyzes and provides recommendations regarding regulatory, compliance, or political issues and developments affecting the organization.
3. Drafts or makes recommendations regarding the preparation and submission of legal documents including policies, procedures, processes, forms, filings, contracts, minutes, resolutions, correspondence, reports, and/or other factual summaries.
4. Investigates, tracks, and makes recommendations regarding inquiries or complaints received from external regulatory agencies.
5. Maintains legal and compliance databases, records, and related department files.
6. Audits or participates in auditing corporate and department files and records in order to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
7. Acts as a liaison between the legal and compliance function and other internal departments, affiliate locations, and/or the Delta Dental Plan Association and provides periodic updates regarding the status of new or open issues and projects as necessary.
Perform other related assigned duties as necessary to complete the Primary Job Responsibilities as described above.
Position requires a bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field and three years of experience researching and analyzing legal or compliance requirements and/or preparing legal documents in response, preferably in the life & health insurance industry. Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
Required Qualifications.
Position requires knowledge of legal research tools, such as NILS and Westlaw; strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills; the ability to work independently and as part of a team; and the ability to solve problems using independent judgment.
