Job Description.
The Veterans' Home of Wyoming is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Recreational Activities Coordinator. The purpose of this position is to conduct therapeutic recreational activities for the residents of the facility to enhance their lifestyle through improved social, physical, cognitive and emotional skills and values. The Veterans' Home of Wyoming is located at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains and one half mile west of the city of Buffalo. There are many opportunities for outdoor activities in the area, including hunting, fishing, boating, downhill and cross country skiing and hiking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Develops and administers the therapeutic recreational program for the facility utilizing various forms of recreation.
Works in conjunction with licensed therapists, assesses and assures implementation of personalized therapeutic programs.
Maintains therapeutic facilities and trains employees to troubleshoot, recognize problems, and how to correct minor problems.
Conducts activities and performs therapeutic interventions, as needed.
Projects budgetary needs and maintains routine inventories.
Supervises staff, assists in the hiring of recreational activities specialists, makes recommendations for disciplinary actions including termination, and evaluates assigned staff
Required Qualifications.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques.
Knowledge of a wide range of recreational activities.
Knowledge of therapeutic recreation techniques, human behavior, communications and motivation.
Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to area of specialization.
Knowledge of recreational materials, tools, and equipment and their care and use.
Knowledge of rules and procedures for a wide variety of team and individual sports and games.
Knowledge of individual and group work techniques used in recreational instruction and organization.
Knowledge of emergencies and dangerous situations and how to physically respond to them.
Skill in driving large vehicles requiring CDL licensing.
Ability to develop and implement recreational activities to meet the needs of a wide range of residents with a variety of disabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)
PLUS
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Recreational Activities Specialist

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical ability to lift, twist, bend, pull and push up to 50 lb
