Job Description.

SUMMARY: Supervises volunteer workers and provides direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer activities. This is a temporary position and is predicated on gleaning needs. The weekly work schedule for this position may be determined by weather, season, farm cooperation, available produce, and volunteer availability. The coordinator must be flexible in their ability to schedule their time, may need to work weekends and must be present for each gleaning unless arrangements have been made in advance. If the Coordinator is a parent/legal guardian, he/she may bring their children to the work site provided: the children are old enough to participate as a volunteer in the gleaning; parent and/or legal guardian has signed a liability waiver; and the property owner has given their permission. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Foster relationships between volunteers, emergency food providers and growers. Working with Farm to Food Bank cross functional team, build a volunteer base to glean produce and help recruit other volunteers. Stocks and prepares needed supplies for all gleaning activities, including equipment, snacks, and water. Responsible for training and instruction of each volunteer and group while they are working ensuring safe and effective gleaning practices. Ensures freshly gleaned produce is transported to appropriate partner agency. Maintains accurate records and activity reports on volunteer participation. Ensure all required documents, such as liability waivers and media release forms, are signed by all participating individuals. Represents the Food Bank to volunteers in a professional and courteous manner, understanding that volunteers are the lifeblood of the Food Bank. Represents volunteers and communicates feedback on needs and experience. Maintains open line of communication with supervisor and staff. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or staff.

Required Qualifications.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Language Skills - Strong skills in interpersonal communication and organization. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, partner agencies/schools, clients, donors, community organizations, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Personal Skills – Must be a self-starter who is driven and capable of keeping track of multiple projects working independently and remotely. Must be highly organized with an ability to pay attention to detail; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships; strategic and creative thinker; Team player with positive attitude and flexibility.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Clearance of background investigation, drug screen and physical examination.
Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School education or equivalent work experience. Experience working in farming, food systems or gardening preferred. The Coordinator must possess a valid driver’s license, have access to a vehicle at all
Times capability of transporting food when needed, have a flexible schedule, and ability to commit to the duties of on-farm gleaning between the months of May and October. Good communication skills. Basic skills in addition, subtraction and multiplication are required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains constant supervision of all volunteer groups and individuals working on the gleaning projects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work in an outdoor/farming environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to hot, wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is frequently required to stand; bend; stoop; walk; knell; sit and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate volunteer activity schedules and produce yield availability.
