Job Description.

SUMMARY: Performs advanced level research work and assists lawyers by investigating facts, preparing legal documents, and/or researching legal precedent. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: • Prepare documents, such as correspondence and legal documents, and organize and maintain documents in paper and electronic filing system. • Prepare for litigation by performing tasks such as organizing exhibits. • Review and revise legal documents, including briefs, pleadings and contracts to meet the needs of internal clients. • Meet with clients and other professionals to interview and discuss details of case. • Prepare and file documents with government and other regulatory agencies. • Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents. • Interview employees and prepare summaries. • Investigate facts and law of cases and search pertinent sources, such as public records. • Direct and coordinate law department activity, including administrative functions such as billing and records retention. • Negotiate and conclude contracts with vendors for law department. • Maintain and analyze case costs by working with attorney, clients, and providers. • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications. • Produces information by transcribing, formatting, inputting, and editing in Microsoft office, company and third party systems. • Conserves attorney’s time by reading, researching, and routing correspondence; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information, initiating communications and other duties as assigned. • Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Required Qualifications.

• Bachelor’s degree required. ABA paralegal certificate required. At least 3-4 years of relevant professional experience required.
• Thorough knowledge of legal principles and practices, legal research techniques, legal terminology, legal communication principles and practices.
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
• Reading comprehension – The ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
• Active listening – The ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points bring made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

• Law and Government – Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
• Clerical – Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
• Computers and Electronics – Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office products including but not limited to Word and Excel.
• Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exceptional customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Oral Comprehension – The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented though spoken words and sentences.
