Job Description.
The Office of Government Relations is looking for a critical thinker, problem solver and team player to join its team. The Government Relations Assistant is responsible for handling a variety of high-level administrative duties, including monitoring and controlling departmental budgets; managing contract solicitations and administration; compiling data and preparing monthly, annual and special reports; researching requests and complaints and preparing responses; drafting city council reports and requests for action; coordinating meetings and travel requests; planning events and logistics; and creating web and social media content.
In addition to the aforementioned administrative duties, the Government Relations Assistant also assists with highly specialized tasks, including preparing and submitting lobbyist expenditure reports and contributed services reports and administering legislative tracking systems. This position interacts with elected officials, lobbyists and city management, including department heads and members of the city’s executive team.

Required Qualifications.
Bachelor degree in public or business administration or a related field.
One year of paraprofessional level administrative or financial experience (e.g., preparing agendas for formal meetings, administration of projects and programs, research and analysis, budget preparation, grant monitoring, reporting, procurement and contract monitoring).
An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications.
Four or more years of professional/paraprofessional level administrative or financial experience (e.g., administration of projects and programs, research and analysis, budget preparation, grant monitoring, reporting, procurement and contract monitoring).
Experience working in a government relations/intergovernmental affairs setting, including working with elected officials.
Experience with procurement, contract administration and related programs, including eProcurement/SRM.
Experience with municipal budgets and related programs, including SAP and BRASS.
